With love from Valea Zălanului

Which is the most remote settlement in Covasna County? Surrounded by deciduous forests, Valea Zălanului must be familiar, as it is one of the favourite resting places of Charles, Prince of Wales. In particular, it is interesting to mention that in the 1680s, Count Sámuel Kálnoky established a glass furnace on the forest estate of the village Zalău, where the polygonal windows of the St. Michael’s Church in Cluj-Napoca were also made.

I have fond memories of the place, having taken part in the building of the local bathhouse in the late summer of 2014. Dozens of local people, children, and adults carried the building materials as one man, and if there were not enough stones we collected from the stream.

The hard work was supported by boundless cooperation, creative enthusiasm, and respect for nature. The once dilapidated, neglected environment turned into something beautiful, where benches, painted signboards, and wicker dressing rooms were made to invite visitors to take a bath or visit a mofette in the unspoilt, picturesque, and tranquil surroundings.
