The Promise of the Fortyogó Bath

The Promise of the Fortyogó Bath

In Ruseni, north of the centre of Upper Covasna County, lies the Fortyogó Bath, which has been attracting visitors for decades with its mineral water pool, hot tub, mofetta, and inn. One of the gems of Târgu Secuiesc, the resort was popular not only with the arthritic inhabitants of the town of guilds but also with people from further afield who came to seek relief.
The Fortyogó Bath was also the site of one of Europe's most unique art camps, Incitato, which was founded in 1993 and traditionally has a horse theme. The legacy of the founding father, the late Ferenc Tóth, the revivalist of the sport of carriage driving in Covasna County, is now carried on by his daughter Ildikó Tóth. In addition to his legendary commitment to equestrianism, Ferenc Tóth also became a supporter and active organiser of culture and art, having founded the Incitato art camp with sculptor József Miholcsa in 1993. Renowned artists were invited to the Fortyogó Bath in summer - the camp's headquarters moved to Bálványos Bath and then to Cătrușa in recent years - where the artists created their works directly inspired by the world of the horses' herds.
Under new ownership, the spa centre is about to be renovated, and it is hoped that it will soon be welcoming visitors again. And maybe even artists who paint horses.
