Birthday bath

We had a sunny, warm October. We were preparing, with a smaller gang, to celebrate my birthday in Peteni. A year before, I hadn’t even heard of the small village, even though I live only 45 km away. But a lot has changed here in the last year, and word has got around that the traditional Szekler bath on the edge of the village, having been inaugurated in 1932, has been renovated/rebuilt.

After our arrival, we quickly set about experiencing the cold bath – since there is no thermal water around here. After a short “acclimatisation” we were submerged in the water. After a few minutes, my thighs were already numb, so I sat on the edge of the 5*5 m2 wooden pool, and I remained at dangling my feet in the water. It was refreshing, and I definitely felt recharged.

The experience with the mineral water pool was followed by the cake slicing in the gazebo next to the bath.  After that, some people went to the Finnish sauna because the new engineers created the 21st-century Fortyogó bath according to today’s expectations – mixing Scandinavian and Szekler traditions.

Fanatics also take over the place in winter. Of course, the bath needs to be de-snowed first, and a hole should be cut in the ice with a pick. Adventure time!
