The Cimborák (Buddies) Puppet Theatre was founded in 1998. It promotes the rich legacy of the Hungarian folk tales.

The M Studio (Movement Theatre) was established in 2005 by young actors and dancers, searching for new forms and possibilities in the art of movement. As the only representative of this art form in Transylvania, the ensemble aims to promote the theatre of movement that combines music, motion and visual elements, continuously searching for new ways of expression. Choreographer and director Péter Uray, the artistic leader of the M Studio, believes in the continuous search of new forms that eventually find themselves bound in a performance as a coherent whole.

The Háromszék Dance Theatre was founded in 1990 in Sfântu Gheorghe. The aim of the ensemble is to collect, to preserve and to present the traditional folk music and dances from Transylvania through an original theatrical and dramatic language and form. These performances reveal the contemporary values of folklore and break down the audience’s prejudice about this  tradition seen as anachronistic. The Ensemble combines together traditional folk dance and music with modern dance-theatre elements and movements and discovered the great theatrical potentials in different regional rituals, traditions even local historical events. The theatre together with the Lajtha László Foundation organizes every year the Folk Dance and Music Festival in Sfântu Gheorghe where professional collectors, authentic tradition keepers, musicians and participants come together, keeping our valuable traditions alive. ANDREI MURESANU THEATER (TAM) The "Andrei Mureşanu" Theater was founded in 1987. It is a repertory theater, financed by the Local City Council, and also produces contemporary art productions as dance-theater, image-theater and experimental productions. There are more nonverbal productions which were presented in several important theater festivals all over the world as: Brussels (Belgium), Leipzig (Germany), Tampere (Finland), Trabzon (Turkey), Faro (Portugal), Nitra (Slovakia), Zsámbék (Hungary, Kishinev (Moldavia), Plymouth (Great Britain), Varna (Bulgaria), Torino, Rome, Venice (Italy) etc. Andrei Mureșanu Theatre offers plays of classic and contemporary drama, both Romanian and universal. In past years, TAM produced shows of great distinction and organised festivals with interesting topics, but the most important festival from its short history is ATELIER FESTIVAL - festival of experimental theatre. The performances mounted in this institution received recognition of their value, both national and international. During festivals, the theater hosted productions from Romania, Hungary, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, Brazil etc. TAM was also invited to major European Theatre Festivals such as Leipzig (Germany), Nitra (Slovakia) Zsambek (Hungary), Trabzon (Turkey), Tampere (Finland), Bern (Switzerland), Turin (Italy), Faro (Portugal), Varna (Bulgaria), Edinburgh and worked with directors, designers, composers, choreographers and actors of the highest quality. During this time an artistic and technical team of high professionalism was formed. An important place in the history of the theatre is that of the well-known director Radu Afrim, the pioneer of new orientations in Romanian theatre. His productions were invited in national and international festivals of high importance and his works are appreciated at european level. Though it often faced difficult situations, TAM managed to enchant audiences with quality productions. Its aim was always to conquer all that is new and valuable. The young and energetic team greatly contributes to the survival of this theater, due to the actors', directors' and technicians' courage and ambition, people who know how to face difficult situations and to bring their art in front of spectators of all ages and all social categories.

🎭 The Theatre of Sfântu Gheorghe was established in 1948 as a permanent professional artistic institution, under the name of Hungarian State Theatre.  With its new artistic program, the Tamási Áron Theatre is now one of the most important theatre workshops in Transylvania. Its performances are based on the clashes between the powerful visuality of the Romanian theatre and the more rational, realistic Hungarian theatre, but also keen on the German expressionist theatre, resulting in a synthesis that defines the language of this institution, thus becoming an integral part of the contemporary European context.  The company is consistent in its artistic work and already has a vivid relationship with its audience, becoming a scene for emotional and intellectual contact, a meeting point where artists and audience can freely evolve.  With this in mind, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the theatre’s establishment, in 2009, the first edition of the International Theatre Festival REFLEX was organised. Its aim was to present theatre plays that are created in a vivid and poetic manner and in line with the contemporary theatre phenomenon.
