About
✨ Our experience of the world is always filtered through consciousness, language, and culture; we are layered collages of interwoven memories and experiences that cannot be fully grasped under the microscope of the mind. The Latin word “theca” means a container for storing something. Art gallery, library, sound archive, and beehive - Tasi József István is also such a “thecar,” who collects, preserves, processes, and reveals.
📖 Known by the artist name Tajó, Tasi József István was born in Timișoara in 1966. He graduated from the High School of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timișoara (1996), under the guidance of Romul Nuțiu. After 11 years as an art teacher, he became a freelance artist. In 1998, he bought a house in the village of Socolari, where, in 2013, he organized the first art symposium and founded the Urma gallery. The theme of the “urma” (the Romanian word means "trace"), inspired by his childhood, reflects a search for a connection with eternity and defines his artistic creation.
👨🏽🎨 Although trained as a painter, he has transcended the limits of the canvas through the technique of collage, developing works that lie between relief and installation. His art explores the contrast between materials - wood and metal - and pays homage to written culture, viewed both as a phenomenon and as a substance.
