About

🎨 Traveling exhibition by Műcsarnok/Kunsthalle, Budapest

👨🏼‍🎨 Nagy Pál was a painter, graphic artist, art writer, and teacher whose work reveals a close connection between his independent artistic practice and his responsibility as an art teacher. Between 1952 and 1976, he was one of the most important Hungarian art teachers in Transylvania, as well as an exhibiting artist who, by the end of the 1960s, had developed a unique style of painting that combined figurative, realistic, abstract, surrealist, and kinetic elements, as well as pop art and elements evoking the language of contemporary posters. Several generations of students still remember him fondly, respecting above all his professional competence, with which he introduced his students to the genres of visual arts with humanity and humor. Thus, the artist and teacher laid the foundations for the emergence of a generation of artists who, through their aesthetic and moral resistance, became defining figures of postmodern art in Romania.

🖼 This unique exhibition commemorates and evokes the personality of Nagy Pál together with the works created by his students. The first exhibition space offers a selection from the artist and teacher's life's work, highlighting his representative works, while the other rooms of the Transylvanian Art Centre present paintings, graphic works, textile art and works that combine different genres and explore new uses of photography, all created by former disciples, reflecting the teachings and experimental approach of their master.

We look forward to seeing you there! ✨
